“The advance of technology is based on making it fit in so that you don’t really even notice it, so it’s part of everyday life.” — Bill Gates

If SingPass were human, it would be considered a teenager heading to college in a couple years. It is fitting that after more than a decade of being a “login utility” or “password”, we had a breakthrough when we outfitted SingPass in 2018 with a trendier sidekick — the SingPass Mobile app.

With the SingPass Mobile app, logging in to digital services became even easier. Users can simply use their fingerprint, face recognition or an easy-to-remember 6-digit passcode. No more entering long passwords.

How many people were convinced to try this app?

March 2020: Hello One Million Users!

You million users make us feel like a million bucks!

After the launch of the SingPass Mobile app, the team pushed on to release two more widely popular features Login Shortcuts where users were a tap away from popular digital services (no need for bookmarks or long URLs!), and Profile where users would always have their important personal information on hand.

Besides introducing the new features, SingPass Mobile has also expanded its use to private sector services, such as NTUC Income’s portal, Singapore National Employers Federation’s grants portal, among others. Not “just a login”, the app also facilitates in-person identity verification — you can use it for visitor registration at Republic Plaza, and new patient registration at Punggol Polyclinic for a start.

In June 2020, after more than 1.5 years of hard work enhancing and releasing useful features in the app, we now have over 1.6 million users who have used the SingPass Mobile app for their transactions!

While we basked in the excitement, we also pondered — “How did we get to where we are today?” So we thought it’s timely to shine a spotlight on our users who have been with us on our journey all this while.

You spoke, we listened, and we acted upon it.

Since the app launch, we have conducted many rounds of user testing and citizen engagement sessions to better understand user experience with SingPass Mobile. Our aim is to build a SingPass Mobile app that meets your needs.

Here are some of the improvements made to the app based on feedback that we have received:

We are really grateful for all the feedback we have received, so please keep them coming!

It’s been great. What more can I do with my digital identity?

Today, you can use your SingPass Mobile as your digital identity to access services. Apart from using the app to access digital services and prove your identity at counters, we will soon introduce more useful features that enhances your experience when transacting with the public and private sectors.

Here’s a sneak peek; can you guess what are these upcoming features?

The app that helps us keep you safe

By now, you may be thinking, “I’m encouraged to stay home during this period, so I won’t need to prove my identity at counters anyway.”

As economic activities gradually resume, you will need a faster way to check in to locations when heading out for work, errands and groceries. With SingPass Mobile, you can complete your SafeEntry check-ins in under 5 seconds. Here is a video to show you how:

If you are heading out with your family, you can now check in as a group of up to five individuals (including yourself) when entering a location together! Find out how to add individuals to your check-in list:

Update your app to the latest version and try it the next time you head out. You won’t be disappointed, we promise.

It’s your identity. Build it with us.

Finally, if you are keen to test out upcoming features in the app, you can join us as a Tech Kaki by following us at go.gov.sg/tech-kaki and DM us your email address so we can keep you updated on future citizen engagement sessions on SingPass Mobile. You will be playing a part to make your SingPass Mobile app even more useful!
